Manchester United midfielder Jade Moore believes that greater strength in depth could be the difference in the battle for European qualification this season.

The Red Devils have pushed hard to secure UEFA Women’s Champions League football in recent years but they have fallen narrowly short.

Marc Skinner’s side will again be targeting a top three finish this year. Manchester United have made a number of signings in the summer transfer window and midfielder Moore believes that having more strength in depth could be the game changer that the club needs.

“I think you can see our intentions from the signings that Marc has made and it has highlighted the areas where we have needed to strengthen,” Moore said when speaking in a Manchester United media day.

“We found out some key information about last season which showed that we needed to have more strength in depth and I think that’s going to be our turning point this season.

“We start every season wanting to do the best that we can possibly do but if we don’t make the top three this season, it’s going to be a disappointment.”

Moore joined Manchester United in the January transfer window. The player has needed time to build up her fitness but she is feeling good going into her first full season at the Leigh Sports Village.

She said “I’m feeling very good. I came in off the back of surgery when I signed in January so I needed a bit of time to let the body heal and I needed to get some chronic load under my body. I was really fortunate to come into this club with a manager who understood my condition and had my foreseeable future mapped out.

“Right now, I’m feeling fit, healthy and raring to go.”

Manchester United kick-off the new season at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday lunchtime.
