Manchester United and Reading get their respective seasons underway with a fixture at the Leigh Sports Village on Saturday lunchtime.

The hosts will be hoping to close in on a first European qualification whilst opponents Reading will have ambitions of again overachieving in 2022/2023 just as they have done for the past few years.

Manchester United go into the new season without the services of midfielder Jackie Groenen who has joined French club Paris Saint-Germain. Defender Aoife Mannion and forward Rachel Williams are unavailable for selection through injury. Head coach Marc Skinner could offer debuts to up to six players, those being Aïssatou Tounkara, Maya Le Tissier, Grace Clinton, Adriana Leon, Nikita Parris and Lucía García.

Reading boss Kelly Chambers will welcome Emma Mukandi into her side after the player returned from maternity leave. Forward Emma Harries remains sidelined with a long term injury while The Royals could be missing one or two other players with knocks, although the injury situation is thought to have improved over the last seven days. Chambers could offer a debut to former Manchester United defender Diane Caldwell along with fellow summer signings Brooke Hendrix, Becky Jane, Lauren Wade and Charlie Wellings.
