Blackburn Rovers have completed the signing of midfielder Nicola Worthington from Lancashire rivals Burnley.

Worthington’s move to The Sir Tom Finney Stadium was confirmed by Blackburn Rovers this afternoon via an update on their official club website.

The 29-year-old returns to the club where she spent her youth. Worthington spent eight years with Blackburn Rovers in her initial spell with the Lancashire club.

Since leaving Blackburn Rovers in 2009, Worthington has played for Manchester City, Durham, Bolton Wanderers, Burnley and the University of Bridgeport in the United States. The midfielder made 29 appearances for FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division club Burnley last season while she scored 11 goals for The Clarettes.

Worthington’s arrival at The Sir Tom Finney Stadium rounds off a busy 24 hours for Blackburn Rovers boss Gemma Donnelly. The Barclays Women’s Championship club also brought back their former forward Chloe Dixon yesterday with the player signing on for the remainder of the season.

Blackburn Rovers continue the new Barclays Women’s Championship season with a fixture against Durham at Maiden Castle on Sunday. Both of their new signings could be made available for selection for that match as Blackburn Rovers look to return to winning ways following defeat at Bristol City last time out.
