Kerstin Casparij says that she feels no pressure filling the void left by former Manchester City full-back Lucy Bronze.

The England international left The Academy Stadium during the summer transfer window and joined former European champions FC Barcelona.

After impressing for The Netherlands at the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022, Casparij won herself a move to Manchester City and she is set to fill the right-back position which was vacated by Bronze.

When speaking in a Manchester City media session, Casparij said that she is feeling no pressure and does not see herself as Bronze’s replacement.

“No, not really to be honest,” Casparij said when asked whether she feels the pressure of replacing Bronze. “I don’t put too much pressure on myself filling in Lucy’s shoes so no, not really.”

Casparij follows a whole host of successful Dutch exports to the Barclays Women’s Super League. She went on to say that she took some advice before sealing her move to The Academy Stadium.

She said “I did speak to some of the girls who have played in the WSL but they didn’t know that I was trying to make a move here.

“I had a few conversations with them. They told me about the league, how it’s growing and England in general so I did get some information out of them.”

Casparij could make her debut for Manchester City in the club’s opening match of the season against Aston Villa at Villa Park this afternoon. The player said that she is very excited at the prospect of playing in some big stadiums this season.

“I’m very excited,” Casparij said. “I love the big stadiums, I love big crowds, I’ve said that over and over again.

“I’m very excited and it will be even better if we can walk away with three points, I cannot wait.”

Manchester City’s opening fixture of the 2022/2023 Barclays Women’s Super League season at Aston Villa kicks-off at 12.30pm.
