London City Lionesses attacker Jamie-Lee Napier believes that her performances are improving off the back of the club’s challenging environment on the training pitch.

The 22-year-old is now in her second year with The Pride. She joined the club in summer 2021 and was the joint-third highest appearance maker in the London City Lionesses side last season.

With London City Lionesses aiming to challenge for promotion this season, Napier could be a key player for Melissa Phillips’ side once again. The Scot has had a bright start to the new season which she puts down to being challenged by the club in training every single day.

“I feel that I have grown in confidence since being at London City and that is a credit to the players and the staff that I have around me,” Napier said when speaking to FAWSL Full-Time.

“Coming into training each day, you just get pushed to be the best version of yourself and I think that has shown in my recent performances.

“Coming off the back of last season, I was playing a bit more confidently, getting more goals and assists and I have taken that into this season. I just want to keep going and keep pushing the team as much as I can.”

London City Lionesses come up against a Durham side who have a very clear identity at Princes Park this weekend. Napier went on to say that The Pride will look to get control of the contest and focus on their own qualities.

She said “Durham are a very physical team, they are a hard team to play against but I back us and believe in us as a team that we can just control the game and play our football. We have a very specific style of play and if we get hold of the game from the get-go, we should be able to manage it and see it through.

“We need to stick to our game plan, we don’t need to focus too much on Durham. We know they’re physical but we have to focus on us and I’d back us to get the three points.”

The Barclays Women’s Championship fixture between London City Lionesses and Durham is scheduled to kick-off at midday on Sunday. Tickets are on-sale now and can be purchased by clicking here.
