Reading forward Deanne Rose is set for a lengthy period on the sidelines with an Achilles injury according to reports on The Royals’ official club website.

The 23-year-old sustained the injury on the opening weekend of the new Barclays Women’s Super League season as Reading went down 4-0 at Manchester United. Rose was replaced by Natasha Dowie after just 25 minutes at the Leigh Sports Village.

The player’s injury has now been assessed by the Reading medical team and the club have confirmed that Rose will be sidelined for ‘an extended period’ with a ruptured Achilles. The news is a real blow for The Royals who could name just six substitutes last weekend including a couple of academy graduates.

Olympic Gold Medalist Rose was a marquee signing for Reading when she joined the club in summer 2021. The player featured in all-but-one of the club’s matches in last season’s Barclays Women’s Super League. Rose contributed four league goals for her side in 2021/2022 as Reading recorded another solid finish in the top tier.

The Royals continue the new season without Rose’s services when they travel to The Amex Stadium to take on Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon. Both clubs will be looking to collect their first points of the new campaign this weekend.
