Arsenal forward Beth Mead has been crowned the England Women’s Player of the Year for the 2021/2022 season.
FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official press release from The Football Association earlier today.
Mead won the award after she was voted England’s top player in 2021/2022 in an official fan poll. The forward was presented with the award by her international teammates Rachel Daly and Millie Bright earlier today. Mead said that she is ‘very honoured’ to have won the award.
The forward has enjoyed a new burst of life with the Lionesses under the guidance of head coach Sarina Wiegman. Mead scored 20 goals in 19 international matches in 2021/2022, breaking Jimmy Greaves’ long-standing record for the most goals in one season for England.
Mead was one of England’s shining lights as they won a first UEFA Women’s EURO title earlier this summer. The player won the Golden Boot after scoring six goals at the tournament while she was also the Player of the Tournament and top assists provider. Unsurprisingly, Mead was named in the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 Team of the Tournament.
The forward will be hoping to build on her fabulous form for her country when England take on the United States at a sold-out Wembley tomorrow night.
