Arsenal forward Caitlin Foord says that representing Australia in an international friendly at Kingsmeadow could be a strange experience.

Foord has represented Arsenal in many battles with Barclays Women’s Super League rivals Chelsea at the venue but there has never been an international match played there.

History will be made tomorrow when Kingsmeadow plays host to Australia’s international friendly with South Africa and Foord says that it might feel a little strange contesting a match there with her national team.

“It is a bit strange to think (we are playing there),” Foord told FAWSL Full-Time. “To have an international at a club stadium where I play (with Arsenal)….even more so for Sam (Kerr) because thinking of her playing an international game at Boreham Wood would be a strange feeling.

“It will be a bit weird but when you are out on the pitch, you kind of forget about everything and it’s just another game of football.”

Tickets for the match have been on-sale since the venue was announced but again, Foord is unsure of what kind of crowd will be attracted to Kingsmeadow.

She said “I don’t know what to expect with the game being over here. It’d be great if some fans come out to support us but it’s a different one when you are not in your home country you are not really sure if people are going to come or not. We will wait and see but it’d be nice if we do get a good turnout.”

Opponents South Africa are known for their physical approach but Foord said that Australia will be focusing on their own game.

“We’ve played African nations before and we know what they bring,” Foord said. “For us, the main focus is on ourselves and we will try to exploit where they have their weaknesses.

“It is just about good football again, feeling good and playing how we know we can play. This is a great opportunity for us to showcase that.”

Australia’s international friendly against South Africa kicks-off at 12.30pm tomorrow. Tickets remain on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
