Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor says that this weekend’s opponents Leicester City will look to give his side a difficult time.

The two sides meet at The Academy Stadium on Sunday. Both Manchester City and Leicester City are bidding to collect their first points of the new season.

Leicester City were seen by many as the relegation favourites at the start of the season but they have worked incredibly hard and have made things difficult for their opponents so far in 2022/2023.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Manchester City head coach Taylor said that he expects The Foxes to again be very difficult opponents this weekend

“They’ve made it difficult,” Taylor said. “They’re really difficult to play against and you could see they made it very difficult for Everton (in their last match) by coming out and engaging and not blocking up as much as we would anticipate.

“We need to be ready for a tough game, there’s no doubt but it’s about focusing on what we do, making sure that we get good continuity and good symmetry between the players in certain positions on the pitch. We always feel like we can score goals and we are looking forward to the challenge on Sunday.”

Manchester City were defeated 2-0 by Chelsea in their last match. The Cityzens were arguably the better team over the 90 minutes but failed to take their chances. Taylor is looking at the positives and believes that results will turn in his side’s favour.

He said “If you look at both games, they were tight. If we had been battered and come away with no points, we would have delved into it a bit further.

“I think that Chelsea hadn’t conceded 12 shots on goal in the first half of a game since 2013 or something like that. At the end of the day, we didn’t score but there were positives around it for sure.

“There are some little things that we need to iron out and get better at and I think that’s only natural when you have a big intake of players coming in that need a bit more familiarity and a bit more consistency of working with each other. The international breaks don’t help because you work with them for a little bit and then they go away again.

“They’re good players, we’ve got a real good squad at the moment. It needs a little bit of time and given that time and support, we will see some really good things from this team.”

Manchester City’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Leicester City kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday.
