Aston Villa will be aiming to continue their excellent start to the new Barclays Women’s Super League season when West Ham United are the visitors to The Poundland Bescot Stadium this afternoon.

The Villans have been the most eye-catching team in the opening weeks of the new season, winning both of their matches against Manchester City and Leicester City. West Ham United have also had a positive start. The Hammers have taken just three points from an available nine but their performance levels have generally been good.

Aston Villa head coach Carla Ward continues to be without long term absentees Remi Allen and Simone Magill. Australian forward Emily Gielnik can also be added to the list of casualties with the player having returned from international duty with an injury which could keep her out until after Christmas. There has also been a bug in the Aston Villa camp this week which could rule some further players out of this afternoon’s match.

West Ham United make the trip to the Midlands without defender Lucy Parker and midfielder Jess Ziu who have both recently sustained long term injuries. Abbey-Leigh Stringer is doubtful as she nurses a knock but Danish international Emma Snerle is fit again.

The Barclays Women’s Super League fixture between Aston Villa and West Ham United kicks-off at 12.30pm. Tickets will be available for fans to purchase on the turnstiles at The Poundland Bescot Stadium.
