Sunderland’s assistant head coach Steph Libbey has signed a full-time  contract with the Barclays Women’s Championship club.

The Lady Black Cats announced the news via an update on their official club website this evening.

Libbey joins head coach Melanie Reay in moving onto a full-time contract with Sunderland. Reay turned full-time ahead of the start of the 2022/2023 Barclays Women’s Championship campaign after spending seven years working on a part-time basis.

After going full-time with The Lady Black Cats, Libbey said “I’m delighted to sign full-time here. It’s been something I’ve been working towards for a long time on and off the pitch, ensuring I’m ready for that transition into a full-time capacity.

“I’ve been at my current place for over 10 years and they’ve always been really supportive. I’ve got a lot to thank them for but I think both parties now know that the time is right to move on.

“The game is demanding a number of full-time staff and the Club are backing what we’re trying to do. We’ve been really strategic in what and who we’re appointing – good people as well as good professionals who will add value to what we’re doing on and off the pitch.”

Libbey and Reay helped guide Sunderland to a ninth-place finish in the Barclays Women’s Championship last season. The Lady Black Cats recorded their first win of this season at Crystal Palace on Sunday.
