Chelsea’s assistant manager Paul Green says that the club will be taking the threat of Brighton & Hove Albion very seriously this weekend.
The Blues travel to Broadfield Stadium to take on The Seagulls in their latest Barclays Women’s Super League fixture on Sunday evening.
Brighton & Hove Albion have taken at least a point from Chelsea in each of the last three seasons and The Blues’ assistant boss Green is very aware of the Sussex club’s good record in this fixture.
“We know that Brighton over the last few years have been a very difficult opponent for us and we take them very seriously,” Green said when speaking to FAWSL Full-Time.
“When they perform to their best levels, they can be stubborn and make it difficult for teams and they do have a little bit of quality in their squad.
“We need to keep the winning run going but we have respect for Brighton, we know what a tricky opponent they can be and how well set up they are defensively. Over the last two or three years, they have been a stubborn opponent for us so we go there knowing that we need to find a way of unlocking them defensively.”
Chelsea were last in action on Thursday evening when they took on French club Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Green went on to say that there will be some squad rotation in the upcoming games given the hectic schedule.
He added “I think there will be some rotation, you have to do it when there are so many games in a short space of time. Whether that is against Brighton or in midweek against Vllaznia, we will have to wait and see.”
Chelsea’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Brighton & Hove Albion kicks-off at 6.45pm on Sunday evening.
