Chelsea will be hoping to record a seventh consecutive victory in all competitions when they take on Aston Villa in their latest Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Kingsmeadow on Sunday afternoon.
The Blues suffered a shock defeat at Liverpool on the opening day of the season but they have since put together a perfect record and they now have some real momentum. Latest opponents Aston Villa started the season strongly but are seeking a return to winning ways after going four games without a victory in 90 minutes.
Chelsea’s assistant boss Paul Green confirmed in the pre-match press conference that Serbian international midfielder Jelena Čanković remains sidelined with an injury while long-serving defender Maren Mjelde is also out. German international midfielder Melanie Leupolz is still on maternity leave and is not yet in a position to return.
Aston Villa head coach Carla Ward will have goalkeeper Hannah Hampton and forward Rachel Daly available for selection off the back of short term injuries. The Villans remain without long term absentees Meaghan Sergeant, Remi Allen, Ruesha Littlejohn, Simone Magill and Emily Gielnik.
