Brighton & Hove Albion manager Hope Powell says that her side must be up for the fight when they face Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The Seagulls are bidding to return to winning ways after losing their last three matches in all competitions. They come up against an injury-plagued Spurs side who have also struggled to pick up results in recent weeks.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Brighton & Hove Albion boss Powell said that she is expecting to face an aggressive Spurs side this weekend and that her side must be up for the fight.

“They look very organised, very strong, very aggressive and they move the ball very well,” Powell said. “They have got some experienced players in there, I certainly think that Drew Spence has been a really good signing for them.

“We know that it is going to be tough as it always seems to be for us. I think it is going to be quite competitive and I really think that we have to be as aggressive, we have to match them for pace and again, we really have to be up for the fight if we want to get something out of the game.”

Tottenham Hotspur signed forward Ellie Brazil from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer. Sadly, the player will not face her former club this weekend after recently sustaining an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury. Powell said that she was gutted to learn of Brazil’s latest injury blow.

She said “It’s a massive blow, I feel really sad for her. She obviously did it when she was with us and she worked really hard to get back. She found her form again and that was probably why Tottenham came in for her. To do it again is really unlucky and we feel really sad for her.

“On behalf of the staff and the players, we wish her well and wish her a speedy recovery. I know that the players will reach out to her, it’s very sad.”
