Tottenham Hotspur head coach Rehanne Skinner says that this weekend’s opponents Everton will provide a challenge at both ends of the pitch.

The two sides will meet at The Breyer Group Stadium in Leyton on Sunday afternoon.

Everton have generally impressed in the opening weeks of the season under the guidance of new manager Brian Sørensen. The Blue Girls have shown an ability to keep clean sheets while they have also displayed a clinical edge in front of the opposition goal.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Spurs boss Skinner said that Everton will provide her side with a challenge at both ends of the pitch this weekend.

“We played them in pre-season and they’ve evolved a little bit since then,” Skinner said. “Whenever you get a new manager, it takes time to settle things down a little bit. They’ve got positive attacking threats, an experienced backline and I think across the board, it’s a challenging game in terms of shape.

“We’ve got to play really effectively and keep doing what we do but just manage the things that we know they’ll try to hurt us with. We’ve got to try to build on what we did at the weekend to keep making everybody’s life difficult really, so that’s what we’ll be trying to do.”

Spurs recorded an emphatic 8-0 victory over struggling Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend. Skinner went on to say that The Lilywhites must kick on from that result but keep their feet firmly on the ground.

She said “We have to carry what we did last week over into this week. I talk about consistency a lot, we can’t just throw an 8-0 out and then take our foot off the gas again, we have to keep pushing the things that we want to be successful at. We have to keep doing that week in, week out, and that’s ultimately the goal and will be the thing that helps us to be more successful than last year.

“It’s my job to keep our feet on the ground and as a collective, we always look at the things we’re doing well and the things that we need to do better. I think the biggest thing is that we take the confidence and belief from that scoreline and the fact that we had so many different people assisting and scoring. Those are the things that are important to us and what we take into this coming weekend.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Everton kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday. Tickets will be available for fans to purchase on the day from The Breyer Group Stadium ticket office.
