Aston Villa head coach Carla Ward says that her side will do whatever it takes to get three points from this afternoon’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Liverpool.

The Villans have played some nice football so far this season, although results in October proved hard to come by.

When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time in the pre-match press conference, Ward said that her side will do anything to win their latest game, even if that involves adopting an ugly approach.

“It was a funny one (October),” Ward said. “We dominated games, played some exceptional football, we are playing with a lot of freedom at the moment.

“It is the WSL, anyone can beat anyone and I think it is going to be an interesting season this year, you’ve got to pick up points. If you look at the games that we have won, we’ve probably had to win in different ways so the message this weekend is ‘roll your sleeves up and find a way to win the game’, whether that is through the pretty football that we have played or the ugly side of the game.

“We are building something here, we’ve got a really good atmosphere, a great group on and off the pitch. We’ve got to keep progressing and the points will come.”

Opponents Liverpool have failed to collect a single point since the opening day of the season but Ward expects the Merseyside club to be difficult to break down.

She said “They started really well against Chelsea on the opening day and since then, they’ve had a tough run of fixtures you could say.

“We know Beardy (Matt Beard) well, he’s a great guy, a great coach and he knows how to get his teams ready for games. They’ll be well-organised, it’ll be a difficult afternoon no doubt but one thing that we have shown this season is that we have got a good squad with some good staff. We have a really exciting style of play at the moment so we’ve got to keep focusing on what we do well and hopefully go there and get three points.”

Aston Villa’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Liverpool kicks-off at 2pm.
