Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall said that he was delighted with his side’s early intent in their 4-0 victory over Leicester City at The King Power Stadium this afternoon.

The Gunners had started their two previous games a little slower than usual but they were very lively early on against a Leicester City side who are rooted to the bottom of the Barclays Women’s Super League table.

Arsenal hit the bar inside two minutes through Stina Blackstenius before establishing a two-goal lead with just a quarter of the match played.

When speaking in the post-match media huddle, Eidevall said that he was pleased to see his side show their attacking intent from the start.

“I’m happy with the intent,” he said. “I was not happy with the West Ham game and the Zurich game was not necessarily great in that aspect but in the games that we had before that, we had really good intent in the way that we started.

“It is really important for us in the first five or 10 minutes in the game that we can see our identity coming out to play. We had that again today and that was important for us building this victory.”

Arsenal came up against a Leicester City side who are now under new management. Willie Kirk was appointed as the new Leicester City boss on Thursday, leaving Eidevall a little unsure of what to expect from the new-look Foxes this afternoon. The Gunners boss said that he was pleased with Arsenal’s ability to get in-behind early in the game, helping to uncover their opponents’ game plan.

He said “We spoke before the game about there being unknowns with the formation that we were going to play against, we knew that. We said that we didn’t want that to affect our intent to start the game.

“We wanted to be on the front foot and aggressive in our pressing and we wanted to ask the question in-behind Leicester’s defending line. If that was our plan in the first 10 minutes then we could see their formation thereafter and of course, adjust the positions but we didn’t want to spend the first 10 minutes trying to find out and having passes in front of them instead. That suited us very well going into the game and the players executed it very well.”

Arsenal return to action following the international break with a fixture against Manchester United at The Emirates Stadium on Saturday 19 November.
