Brighton & Hove Albion’s interim manager Amy Merricks is not getting carried away by the club’s recent victory over West Ham United and she is fully focused on her side putting in another good performance against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Seagulls defeated The Hammers 5-4 in a rollercoaster match at The Chigwell Construction Stadium in Dagenham a fortnight ago. That result ended a four-match losing streak in all competitions and put six points between Brighton & Hove Albion and the Barclays Women’s Super League’s bottom club Leicester City.

When speaking ahead of this weekend’s fixture against Liverpool, Merricks issued a very clear message that Brighton & Hove Albion must focus on performing again.

“The situation can change so quickly (in terms of the table) so we need to focus on each game as it comes,” Merricks told FAWSL Full-Time. “It is enjoyable because you have won a game but the reality is that for professional sports people and coaches, you are probably more focused on the next challenge. You take the positives, you know where you need to work but there’s another job at hand and we can’t take anything for granted at this moment. We have to focus on performing again.”

Despite being above latest opponents Liverpool in the Barclays Women’s Super League table, Merricks is aware of the Merseyside club’s threats and she expects her side to manage the game well this weekend.

She said “I know Matt Beard really well. They are an organised side, they have several individuals who are very experienced in the WSL and some exciting youngsters who are coming through. I have no doubt that they will come at us in the game and we will have to be prepared for that.

“We have to focus on our performance and the intent from the West Ham game and look to carry that over, managing the game where we can and where we need to.”
