Sheffield United forward Sophie Haywood will miss the remainder of the club’s fixtures in the lead up to Christmas with the player having had surgery on a knee injury.

The Blades provided an update on Haywood’s condition via an update on their official club website yesterday.

Sheffield United have confirmed that Haywood has been struggling with a meniscal issue in her knee and she has recently gone under the surgeon’s knife to correct the problem. The player will now need to spend a period in rehabilitation on the sidelines. Haywood’s period of absence is not expected to be significant with the player set to return in early 2023.

Haywood joined Sheffield United on a free transfer in the summer after leaving Barclays Women’s Super League club Aston Villa. The player has made five appearances for The Blades in this season’s Barclays Women’s Championship.

The forward is experienced at Barclays Women’s Championship level. Haywood made 32 appearances for former club Aston Villa in the second tier. She made 13 of those appearances in the curtailed 2019/2020 season as The Villans won promotion to the Barclays Women’s Super League on a points-per-game basis.

Sheffield United continue the 2022/2023 season with a Barclays Women’s Championship fixture against Charlton Athletic at The Oakwood on Sunday afternoon.
