FEATURED: UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage – In numbers

This season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage came to an end last week with the completion of the Matchday 6 fixtures.

The Barclays Women’s Super League will be well-represented in the quarter-finals with both Arsenal and Chelsea having qualified as group winners. Germany and France also have two representatives in the last-eight while there is one club from Spain and one from Italy.

Following the conclusion of the group stage, FAWSL Full-Time have been looking at the competition facts and figures. Here are the key numbers behind the group stage.

177 – There were 177 goals netted across the 48 group matches, an average of 3.69 goals per game and a goal scored every 24 minutes.

44 – The most goals were scored in the final 15 minutes of matches. In total, 44 of the 177 goals were scored in the 76th minute or later. This includes six goals scored in second half injury time.

55 – Italian club AS Roma have reached the quarter-finals for the very first time in their history. They have become the 55th different club to reach the last-eight.

29 – Spanish giants FC Barcelona were the top scorers in the group stage having scored 29 goals in six matches.

163 – FC Barcelona also registered the most shots on goal in the group stage with 163, an average of 27.17 goal attempts per game. They were some way ahead of German side VfL Wolfsburg who managed 146 goal attempts.

111 – Czech club Slavia Prague made 111 tackle attempts, the highest of any club in the group stage.

5 – Chelsea recorded five clean sheets in six games in the group stage. Other than Real Madrid, no other opponent was able to find the back of The Blues’ net.

69 – Slavia Prague ended the group stage with the reputation of being the most aggressive side. The Czech club committed 69 fouls.

7 – VfL Wolfsburg forward Ewa Pajor ended the group stage as the outright top scorer with seven goals in six games.

26 – Vllaznia goalkeeper Kaylin Conner Williams-Mosier conceded the most goals in the group stage (26 in six games).

2 – Two players provided five assists, those being Chelsea’s Guro Reiten and FC Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmatí.

The draw for the quarter-finals of this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League is scheduled to take place on 10 February 2023.
