Sunderland have completed the signing of Kosovo international forward Elizabeta Ejupi on a free transfer.

The Lady Black Cats confirmed the transfer this evening via an update on their official club website.

The 28-year-old had spent the last 18 months on the books of Sunderland’s Barclays Women’s Championship neighbours Durham before leaving the club earlier today. Ejupi netted two goals in 16 outings for The Wildcats in the Barclays Women’s Championship. The player left the club by mutual consent after struggling for game time this season.

Ejupi has a wealth of experience at Barclays Women’s Championship level and she was once one of the most feared forwards in the second tier. The player will be hoping to get back to her very best levels with regular playing time.

After completing her move to Sunderland, Ejupi said “I’m excited. I think there’s great coaches and a good team so I can’t wait to be a part of it.

“I can’t wait until I get into training, get to know the girls so I’m really excited.”

Ejupi has been handed the number 37 shirt by Sunderland, the same squad number as she held with former club Durham. It is unknown whether the player could make her Sunderland debut against Blackburn Rovers in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup on Sunday.
