Chelsea midfielder Melanie Leupolz has signed a new long-term contract with the club.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blues this morning.

It has been reported that Leupolz has committed her future to the South West Londoners until summer 2026. The 28-year-old spent the vast majority of 2022 on maternity leave but the club have today confirmed that Leupolz has now returned to work.

Leupolz joined Chelsea in from Bayern Munich in 2020. The player has won two Barclays Women’s Super League titles, two Vitality Women’s FA Cups, the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup and the FA Women’s Community Shield in her Chelsea career to date.

After signing her new long-term contract, Leupolz said “When I was leaving Bayern, Chelsea was my favourite club and I wanted to join. I was really lucky that it worked out and my time here has been so special.

“I played the first one-and-a-half years and it feels like I’m not done here, which is why I wanted to extend. I want more games with the team, more chances to win titles and one big ambition is to win the Champions League.”

Leupolz is re-integrating with the Chelsea squad as she bids to make her playing return in the early part of this year.
