Arsenal have confirmed that ticket sales for their Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Chelsea have now exceeded 40,000.

The Gunners announced the news via a post on their official club Twitter account this morning.

Arsenal are set to take on their Barclays Women’s Super League title rivals at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday lunchtime. The game could play a key part in deciding who will be this season’s champions of England.

Tickets have been on-sale for several weeks and sales have now passed the 40,000 barrier. Arsenal broke the Barclays Women’s Super League’s attendance record earlier this season when 47,367 fans packed out the Emirates Stadium for the club’s North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur. Arsenal still have a little way to go to smash that record, however, The Gunners are likely to use every possible opportunity to try to achieve the feat in the lead up to matchday.

Arsenal’s fixture against Chelsea will see The Gunners play at the Emirates Stadium for the sixth time this season. Jonas Eidevall’s side have already faced Spurs and Manchester United at their spiritual home in Barclays Women’s Super League matches while all of their UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage games were also staged at the venue. Arsenal have plans to play more women’s fixtures at their main stadium going forward.
