Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur will both be looking to make positive starts to the new year when they meet at The Poundland Bescot Stadium this afternoon.

The Villans put in some standout performances in the first half of the season and occupy seventh place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table. As for Spurs, they are one place below in eighth and there is undoubtedly much more to come from Rehanne Skinner’s side.

Aston Villa head coach Carla Ward could offer debuts to January transfer window signings Jordan Nobbs and Lucy Staniforth. Forward Emily Gielnik is fit, however, Ward has a number of long-term absentees including Meaghan Sergeant, Remi Allen, Simone Magill, Natasha Harding and Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah.

Tottenham Hotspur’s record signing Beth England could make her debut for her new club in the Midlands. Head coach Rehanne Skinner has a number of injury doubts while the club’s long-term injury list includes Kit Graham, Ria Percival, Ellie Brazil and Kyah Simon. Full-back Ashleigh Neville misses the match through suspension.

The Barclays Women’s Super League fixture between Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur is scheduled to kick-off at 12.30pm this afternoon. Admission will be available on the turnstiles but please note that The Poundland Bescot Stadium is a cashless venue.
