Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Jens Scheuer says that progression in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup is important and he is not one to write the competition off.

The Seagulls take on West Ham United at Broadfield Stadium on Wednesday evening. Brighton & Hove Albion must win the game to qualify for the quarter-finals.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Brighton & Hove Albion boss Scheuer said that turning the league form around is a priority but he is a coach who values progression in domestic cup competitions.

“The main focus is on the league because we know the situation and we know the table but I’m not a coach who will say that the cup is not a priority for us,” Scheuer said. “It is a priority for us and we want to go to the next round.

“We will select the best team for Wednesday and after this game, hopefully, we have been successful and we can then select a team for Arsenal.”

Victory over West Ham United would take Brighton & Hove Albion to within two wins of a first domestic cup final appearance but Scheuer isn’t getting carried away at this point.

He said “It’d be great if we could lift a trophy at the end of the tournament but we are taking things step-by-step. We must be prepared for West Ham and if we get this difficult job done, we then turn our focus to Arsenal.

“Both games are important for us and we go into them with full focus towards winning.”
