Aston Villa head coach Carla Ward has signed a new contract with the club until the end of the 2023/2024 season.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from Aston Villa this morning.

Ward was appointed Aston Villa head coach in May 2021 after leaving the club’s Midlands rivals Birmingham City. The 39-year-old guided The Villans to their highest-ever league finish of ninth position last season while the club have kicked on again this term.

Aston Villa have backed Ward in recent transfer windows, allowing her to bring in a handful of top class international players. Ward has repaid the club for their strong financial backing by guiding the team to some excellent results. The next 18 months promise to be extremely exciting for The Villans with Ward remaining at the helm.

After securing Ward’s services for the next 18 months, Aston Villa’s Head of Women’s Football, Lee Billiard, said “This is terrific news for Carla and the Club. We have seen significant improvement in the team under her leadership and this contract extension will allow her to continue progressing and building on our strategy to develop the game.”

Aston Villa are back in action again on Saturday lunchtime when they travel to Manchester City in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
