Former Arsenal defender Shannon Cooke has joined West Ham United on a long-term deal.

The Hammers announced the news via an update on their official club website this evening.

Cooke spent her youth with Arsenal and made her senior debut for the club at the end of the 2017/2018 campaign. The player then moved out to the United States to combine playing football with her studies at Louisiana State University. Cooke has spent the last four-and-a-half years playing for the LSU Tigers within the US college system.

The 22-year-old Londoner has now returned to the UK and she will look to launch her Barclays Women’s Super League career with West Ham United.

After completing her move to The Chigwell Construction Stadium, Cooke said “I’m thrilled to sign for West Ham United. It’s been a dream of mine for a very long time to sign my first professional contract, so to be able to do that at such a great Club like West Ham is fantastic.

“The WSL is one of the best leagues in the world, and I wanted to come somewhere that would push me every day to progress. Being in such an elite environment here at West Ham gives me an opportunity to do that and I can’t wait to get going here.”

Cooke becomes West Ham United boss Paul Konchesky’s second Transfer Deadline Day signing following the addition of Danish international forward Amalie Thestrup on a loan deal from PSV.
