Manchester United have been successful with their appeal to overturn Ella Toone’s red card which she received during The Red Devils’ 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

The Football Association provided a regulation and discipline update this morning after Manchester United lodged an appeal.

Toone was dismissed in the 80th minute of the match after putting in a late challenge on Spurs midfielder Eveliina Summanen before following that up with some retaliation. Toone pushed Summanen while she was on the ground and the Spurs player held her face, claiming that contact had been made. Upon review, Toone had not made contact with Summanen’s face and Manchester United felt that they had strong grounds for an appeal.

That appeal has now been reviewed by The Football Association who issued the following update this morning:-

Ella Toone will be available for Manchester United Women’s next three games following a successful claim of wrongful dismissal.

The forward was sent off for violent conduct during The WSL game against Tottenham Hotspur Women on Sunday.

Had Manchester United’s appeal not been successful, Toone would have missed the next three games which would have included a huge Barclays Women’s Super League six-pointer against Chelsea at Kingsmeadow. After being cleared of any wrongdoing, Toone will be available for selection immediately after the international break.
