Former Leicester City manager Lydia Bedford has joined Arsenal as an assistant coach.

The Gunners announced the news via a post on their official club Twitter account yesterday evening.

Bedford returns to work in the Barclays Women’s Super League almost four months on from her sacking by former club Leicester City. Bedford’s Foxes failed to collect a single point in this season’s Barclays Women’s Super League prior to her dismissal.

In her 11 months with Leicester City, Bedford’s greatest achievement was guiding the East Midlands club to Barclays Women’s Super League safety last season, preserving their top flight status for a second year. The Leicester City job was Bedford’s first in the elite club game with the young coach having previously worked in the England youth set-up.

Bedford is viewed as one of the most exciting young coaches that the English game has to offer. She has an excellent understanding of the tactical and technical sides of the game and has already shown a keen eye for statistical analysis. Despite not getting the best out of her former team Leicester City, Bedford has a very bright future in the game.

Bedford will be hoping to use her coaching skills to provide additional benefit for new club Arsenal. The Gunners are still chasing four pieces of silverware this season as the club look to end their long trophy drought.
