Jonas Eidevall says that Arsenal want to regain their position as the leading club in the English game after winning the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup this afternoon.

The Gunners defeated Chelsea 3-1 in the final at Selhurst Park. The FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup is the first trophy that Arsenal have won in almost four years.

In the 1990s and 2000s, Arsenal were the dominant force in English football. With their first trophy of the 2020s now in the bag, The Gunners are aiming to regain their tag as the leading club in the English game.

“When you look at the last decade, we have not been the leading club in women’s football in England and historically, we have been,” Eidevall said when speaking in the post-match press conference. “It is, of course, the ambition of the club to go back and regain that position in women’s football again.

“With the number of trophies we have won in the last 10 years, it’s difficult, we know it’s really, really difficult but the ambition is to come back and compete for any trophy.

“It was nice to go the whole way because that can fill us with belief when we see the way we work can result in trophies.”

Arsenal’s FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup success was celebrated by various figures from the club. Eidevall explained that there were some special guests in the changing room after the match.

He said “You can see the happiness. It was very nice for the staff and players to see a club legend like Ian Wright coming down to the dressing room and sharing that moment with him and Lord Harris from the board coming down to share the moment. It shows the connection we have and I am very happy we could share that moment together today.”

Arsenal’s FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup celebrations will be relatively short with the club set to take on Liverpool in their next match at the LV Bet Stadium on Wednesday evening.
