Tottenham Hotspur have sacked head coach Rehanne Skinner following a nine-match losing run in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
The North Londoners announced the news this evening via an update on their official club website.
Spurs have failed to collect a single point in the Barclays Women’s Super League since hammering Brighton & Hove Albion 8-0 at the end of October. Recent poor results have left The Lilywhites hovering just two points above the relegation zone and the club have now opted for a managerial change in a bid to rediscover some kind of form.
Skinner was appointed Spurs head coach in November 2020, taking over from former managerial duo Karen Hills and Juan Amorós. She guided the North Londoners to an eighth-place finish that season before the club climbed to fifth last term. The club’s current league position of 10th is some way behind where they wanted to be, especially given the six-figure investment in forward Beth England. That being said, recent performances have improved and head coach Skinner has been unlucky with long-term injuries.
Skinner’s final game in charge of Spurs saw the club lose 2-1 at Liverpool yesterday. The Lilywhites threw away an early lead at Prenton Park as they slipped to their ninth straight league defeat.
Assistant head coach Vicky Jepson will take charge of Spurs for their crucial Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Leicester City at The Breyer Group Stadium on Wednesday evening.
