Leicester City goalkeeper Janina Leitzig says that the club are hungry for Barclays Women’s Super League survival.
The Foxes have improved massively so far in 2023 and they go into Wednesday’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against relegation rivals Tottenham Hotspur at The Breyer Group Stadium just a point from safety.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Leicester City keeper Leitzig said that the club are hungry for survival.
“Our hunger is endless because everyone believes in it (survival), we really want it and we fight for it every day,” Leitzig said.
“We are working hard in training and on the pitch and you could see our hunger in the game at the weekend against Everton. On and off the pitch, everyone wants to stay in the league.”
A major contributing factor to Leicester City’s improved form has been their rock solid defence. The Foxes limited Everton to just two shots on target at the weekend and Leitzig says that the team want to be just as resolute against Spurs.
She said “I expect a really tight game, they need every point and so do we. I think we are looking good at the moment; the defence were really good against Everton at the weekend and we restricted them to few chances.
“Overall, it was a good team performance and hopefully, we can repeat it tomorrow.”
Leicester City face the challenge of keeping Spurs’ record signing Beth England quiet on Wednesday evening. Leitzig feels as though the East Midlands side are ready for that particular task.
“I am looking forward to the game,” Leitzig said. “It is a challenge of course because she is a really good player but as I mentioned previously, our defence are in good form and we are confident that we can keep her away from the goal.”
Leicester City’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Tottenham Hotspur kicks-off at 7pm on Wednesday evening.
