Everton manager Brian Sørensen had mixed emotions after his side battled out a 1-1 Merseyside derby draw with Liverpool at Goodison Park last night.

Gabby George fired The Blue Girls into the lead with an audacious effort from out wide before Katie Stengel equalised for Liverpool moments later. Leighanne Robe could have scored the winning goal for the visitors early in the second half but her effort was controversially disallowed for an infringement.

When speaking in the post-match press conference, Everton boss Sørensen had mixed feelings about his side’s performance while he felt that the Robe decision wasn’t the only wrong one in the game.

“I think we started well, kept the ball and we looked in control, but after we scored, we froze a bit, became too open and then they got the equalising goal,” Sørensen said. “It was clearly offside, but that’s sometimes how it goes.

“In the second half, we gave away control again, but we looked comfortable. We are just missing that final touch; we put a lot of crosses in and created good chances, but we just needed the finish.

“Overall, I’m happy with 60-70 percent of it, but we weren’t in control for the 90 minutes. I don’t know if it was because we were playing in front of 22,000 fans or the derby occasion and the fact it was a bit scrappy. Courtney (Brosnan) made a big save at the end too, so I can’t be too disappointed.”

Commenting on Robe’s disallowed goal, Sørensen said that he hadn’t had chance to review the incident.

He said “They (the officials) said that she was standing in front of her, obstructing her view or something, that’s what I heard. I basically can’t comment on it. It levelled things up because the goal that we conceded was clearly offside.

“We’ve had conversations about it, but I’d have to see it back again before I can comment on it.”

Everton remain in sixth position in the Barclays Women’s Super League table after last night’s result.
