London City Lionesses interim head coach Nikita Runnacles says that her side will keep chasing promotion to the Barclays Women’s Super League until it is no longer mathematically possible.
The Pride go into the final four games of the Barclays Women’s Championship season in second place, six points behind league leaders Bristol City.
Promotion to the top tier is now out of London City Lionesses’ own hands, however, interim boss Runnacles says that her side will fight until the bitter end.
“We know the position that we are in, we find ourselves in a position that we don’t want to be in and we know that these next four games are super-important to keep that pressure on,” Runnacles said when speaking to FAWSL Full-Time.
“We have to keep believing until it is mathematically impossible (to win promotion), so we keep pushing. The team are fired up and are ready to go for the weekend.”
After making one of the longest trips of the season last weekend to take on Durham at Maiden Castle, London City Lionesses are back on home soil on Sunday as they contest a local derby with Charlton Athletic. Runnacles says that her side are ready for the threats that their latest opponents will bring.
She said “They’ve been picking up points. We know what to expect from Charlton; they play with their heart on their sleeve and they give everything. They look to attack with speed and cause you problems going forward with their runs.
“We know what to expect from them. They are a team that have been picking up plenty of points over the last few games, so we want to be the team that puts a stop to that.”
