Reading goalkeeper Jacqueline Burns has seen her first season in English football brought to an early end by an Achilles injury.

The Royals provided an update on the keeper’s fitness via a post on their official club website this afternoon. Burns will require surgery on her injury in the coming days.

Burns signed for Reading on a free transfer last summer. The player joined the Berkshire club off the back of an impressive senior international tournament debut with Northern Ireland at the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022. Burns has gone on to put together a string of impressive performances in a Reading shirt but the player won’t be seen on the pitch again until next season.

After Reading revealed the extent of Burns’ injury, the player said “Gutted to have my season cut short with an Achilles injury.

“No doubt it’s going to be a tough road to recovery, but I am determined I will be back stronger than ever. I appreciate the great support from the club and my teammates and no doubt they’ll be there to push me through the process.

“Until then, I am ready to support the team for the final push in the season!”

Grace Moloney is likely to play in goal for Reading’s remaining games in this season’s Barclays Women’s Super League.
