London City Lionesses defender Carly Girasoli says that she is delighted to see Sarah Ewens receive a long-awaited international call-up to the Scotland squad.
The Barclays Women’s Championship’s joint-highest goalscorer has been called up for Scotland’s April internationals against Australia and Costa Rica.
Ewens has been a big hit at London City Lionesses since joining the club last summer and her club teammate Girasoli says that she is delighted to see that the forward’s form has been recognised by the Scottish national team.
“I’m so happy for her,” Girasoli said when speaking to FAWSL Full-Time. “She has been working so hard, so for her to be called up is amazing.
“She’s obviously our top goalscorer, so it is really good that she has been recognised.”
Going on to discuss Ewens’ impact for London City Lionesses, Girasoli said that the player has made a big contribution, especially when the going gets tough.
She said “It’s good to have someone that is top of the goalscoring charts and it helps us as a team; it can help us get out of some difficult situations. She has scored some very important goals for us.”
Having represented Scotland at youth level, Girasoli has her own dreams of playing for her country at senior level and she hopes to do this whilst being on the books of London City Lionesses.
“Definitely, it is one of my aims to play for the Scottish national team,” Girasoli said. “To know that it is possible in this team is great.
“I am just going to keep working hard and hopefully, one day it comes.”
Ewens could make her Scotland debut at senior level when they face Australia at AFC Wimbledon’s Cherry Red Records Stadium on Friday afternoon.
