Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor says that he is only focusing on the next game which is against West Ham United at The Academy Stadium this evening.

The Cityzens have five games to secure qualification for next season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League while they have a six-point gap to close in the Barclays Women’s Super League’s title race.

When speaking to the media ahead of this evening’s fixture against West Ham United, Manchester City boss Taylor said that he is looking at the next game rather than the long-term picture.

“It can be quite complex if you over-analyse it too much,” Taylor said. “We are not fans of doing that, me especially, so we just concentrate on the next game in front of us, that’s really key.

“I’m really looking forward to the game, we’ve had a lot of time with the players, a lot of time to prepare. I like the things that I am seeing in training.

“We have two good games at home to look forward to. There are five games left and we have to win all of them, it’s as simple as that, the objective never changes.”

This afternoon’s opponents West Ham United have enjoyed a successful season under new boss Paul Konchesky, although their form has dipped of late. Taylor expects his side to come up against a resolute and well-organised outfit.

He said “I expect them to be disciplined and organised. They make it difficult on their own patch and they make it difficult on the road as well, they frustrated Arsenal at home earlier in the season.

“It is never easy when you play these kinds of teams, they’ve got good individual players but we focus on the types of players that we use in these situations to hurt them in areas where we think we can.”
