Manchester United goalkeeper Safia Middleton-Patel has joined Barclays Women’s Championship club Blackburn Rovers on an emergency loan deal until the end of the season.
The Red Devils announced the news via a post on their official club Twitter account this evening.
Middleton-Patel will spend the final five days of the 2022/2023 Barclays Women’s Championship campaign with Blackburn Rovers. The player went straight into the squad for the Lancashire club’s fixture against Lewes at The Sir Tom Finney Stadium this evening. Middleton-Patel was an unused substitute as Blackburn Rovers grabbed a 1-0 win.
The youngster will be a member of the Blackburn Rovers squad again on Sunday when they travel to Sunderland for their final fixture of the 2022/2023 Barclays Women’s Championship season before returning to parent club Manchester United.
Middleton-Patel has come through the youth system at Manchester United and the player is now on the fringes of the first team. The keeper has been sent out on a number of short-term loans in her senior career to date. She has twice been loaned to Blackburn Rovers while the teenager has also briefly spent time with Leicester City and Coventry United. Middeton-Patel is yet to make her senior debut for Manchester United, although she is rated very highly by head coach Marc Skinner.
