Arsenal midfielder Lia Wälti has signed a new contract with the club.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Gunners this morning.

The 30-year-old Swiss national team captain joined Arsenal in summer 2018 after leaving German club 1. Turbine Potsdam. The player has gone on to make 128 appearances for the North Londoners in all competitions. Wälti was a Barclays Women’s Super League winner with Arsenal in her first season with the club while she lifted the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup with The Gunners earlier this season.

After extending her stay with Arsenal, Wälti said “It’s special moment for me to commit my future to Arsenal and I’m very happy and excited.

“Arsenal means so much to me – it felt like home from the moment I joined and over the years I’ve built such strong bonds with this club and the community around it. This is an exciting time to be a part of Arsenal and I want to keep making new memories with this group.”

Arsenal have made significant progress under head coach Jonas Eidevall this season. Wälti has made a significant contribution to The Gunners’ success and she will be hoping to continue to play a major role for the North Londoners in her extended period with the club.
