Arsenal have announced the news that goalkeeper Fran Stenson has left the club at the end of her current deal.
The Gunners announced news of their latest summer departure via a post on their official club website this afternoon.
Stenson joined Arsenal in summer 2019 but the player has struggled for opportunities in the first team. The 22-year-old’s only appearance for The Gunners came in a 4-0 victory at London City Lionesses in the group stage of the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup in the 2020/2021 season.
With Stenson out of favour, the player has enjoyed a number of loan spells away from Arsenal in recent seasons. The keeper had a spell with Blackburn Rovers during the 2019/2020 season before spending time at Brighton & Hove Albion in 2021/2022 where she largely provided cover. Last season saw Stenson play the role of understudy to Lucy Thomas at Birmingham City before the player got a run of games under her belt with latest loan club Sheffield United.
Stenson’s next career move is not yet known. The player has shown enough promise to be picked up by another Barclays Women’s Super League club, however, she may need to drop into the second tier if she wants to play on a regular basis.
