Sunderland full-back Louise Griffiths has signed a one-year contract extension with the club.
The Lady Black Cats announced the news via a post on their official club website this evening.
Sunderland are operating a hybrid playing model this season, offering both full-time and part-time opportunities to players. It has been reported that Griffiths will remain part-time with the Wearside club in 2023/2024. She is the first player to sign a new part-time contract with Sunderland.
Griffiths has spent the last six seasons with Sunderland. The defender has represented the club in the top three tiers of the footballing pyramid. Last season saw Griffiths make 12 appearances for Sunderland in the Barclays Women’s Championship.
After signing her new deal with The Lady Black Cats, Griffiths said “I’m over the moon to have signed and I’m looking forward to a competitive season in the Championship.”
Four players have now signed deals with Sunderland for the upcoming season. Goalkeeper Claudia Moan and defender Brianna Westrup have agreed to become full-time players for the club while Griffiths will remain on Wearside in the same role as last season. Sunderland also announced the impressive signing of highly-rated forward Mary McAteer yesterday on a one-year deal after she recently left Rugby Borough.
