Birmingham City defender Gemma Lawley has signed a new two-year contract with the club.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from the Blues this evening.

The 20-year-old has come through the youth ranks at Birmingham City before going on to feature regularly for the first team. Lawley has made 55 appearances for the Blues in her career to date. The player made 14 appearances last season as Birmingham City finished the 2022/2023 campaign as runners-up in the Barclays Women’s Championship.

Lawley has a big future ahead of her and she will continue her development with Birmingham City over the course of the next two years. The player should benefit from getting further regular game time with the Blues.

Birmingham City have now agreed new contracts with nine members of their 2022/2023 squad. In addition to Lawley, Siobhan Wilson, Lucy Thomas, Martha Harris, Jade Pennock, Abbi Jenner, Louanne Worsey, Lucy Quinn and Louise Quinn have all signed fresh terms with the Blues. The club have also signed former Lewes star Ellie Mason and midfielder Charlie Devlin.

Given their early business, Birmingham City look set to be strong promotion candidates going into the new season. The Blues have set a marker which rival clubs will have to try and match.
