Former West Ham United goalkeeper Sophie Hillyerd has joined Barclays Women’s Championship club London City Lionesses on a free transfer.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Pride this afternoon.

Hillyerd has signed a two-year deal with London City Lionesses and she will battle with Hermoine Cull for the number one jersey at Princes Park this season.

The 20-year-old has spent time with Bristol City, Manchester United, Charlton Athletic and West Ham United in her career to date but she is yet to get a regular run of games. Hillyerd is very much a talent for the future and the player’s qualities have been recognised within the England youth set-up.

The keeper will be hoping to claim that long-awaited first-choice jersey at club level in her time with London City Lionesses.

After joining The Pride, Hillyerd said “Firstly, I spoke to Ronald [Thompson], the head of recruitment, and he gave a really warm vibe about the place.

“He showed me the new facility at K Sports [Cobdown] and it shows the Club has real ambition to push on. I know [Hermione Cull] from a few years back and I really enjoyed working with her in my first training session here.”

Hillyerd becomes London City Lionesses’ second signing of the summer transfer window.
