Southampton have completed the signing of former Leicester City full-back Jemma Purfield on a free transfer.
FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Saints this morning.
Purfield arrives at St Mary’s Stadium with a wealth of top tier playing experience under her belt. Since returning to England in 2018 following a spell combining football with her studies in the United States, Purfield has spent every season in the Barclays Women’s Super League. The defender has represented Liverpool, Bristol City and Leicester City in the top flight.
It is fair to say that Purfield is very much a top tier footballer and she will be hoping to help guide new club Southampton to that level for the very first time in their history.
After joining The Saints, Purfield said “I’m really happy to have made the move. After speaking to people at the club and visiting the club, it was an obvious choice for me, and it just felt right. The vision of the football club – I think it’s fantastic. I’m really excited to be a part of a club that’s pushing to be at that next level and really backing us to go and do that.”
Purfield becomes Southampton’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window.
