Manchester City midfielder Jill Roord was on target for The Netherlands this morning as they played out a 1-1 draw with the United States in their latest match at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023.

Roord fired the Dutch into an early lead in their second Group E fixture but the United States battled back in the second half and levelled matters through Lindsey Horan.

Despite the United States having created the first attacks in the game, it was The Netherlands who opened the scoring in the 17th minute when Roord rifled the ball into the bottom corner of the net from the edge of the box.

The goal sparked a response from the United States with both Trinity Rodman and Horan testing Dutch keeper Daphne van Domselaar.

Vlatko Andonovski’s side equalised just after the hour mark when Horan headed home from a Rose Lavelle corner before Alex Morgan was denied a winning goal by the offside flag as the game ended 1-1.

Both The Netherlands and the United States have collected four points from their two group games so far. The pair will go into the final round of group matches in the qualification places. United States are currently top of the group on goal difference.
