West Ham United have completed the signing of highly-rated teenage defender Jessie Stapleton.

The Hammers announced the news via a post on their official club website this morning.

Stapleton joins West Ham United from SSE Airtricity League of Ireland Women’s Premier Division club Shelbourne. The youngster joined Shels ahead of the 2021 season and she has been a regular starter for the club.

On the international stage, Stapleton made her senior debut for the Republic of Ireland last year as a substitute in a friendly fixture against the Philippines.

After completing her move to West Ham United, Stapleton said “I’m delighted to join West Ham United.

“It’s a massive honour for me to sign for this Club. It’s been a dream of mine since I was a little kid to sign for a professional team and I can’t wait to get going.

“Every player growing up now wants to play in the WSL, it’s one of the biggest and best leagues in the world. You watch the games every weekend over in Ireland.

“There seems to be a great bunch of girls here at West Ham and I’m excited to get started with pre-season training ahead of the new season.”

Stapleton becomes West Ham United’s first signing of the summer transfer window.
