Danish international forward Amalie Thestrup has joined Barclays Women’s Super League club Bristol City on a two-year deal.

The Robins announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website this evening.

Thestrup joins Bristol City from Dutch club PSV. The player spent time playing in the Barclays Women’s Super League in 2022/2023 during a half-season loan spell with West Ham United. Thestrup made 10 league appearances for The Hammers.

The forward has struggled to find the back of the net in recent seasons but she will be hoping to use her experience and return to the goal trail with new club Bristol City.

After joining The Robins, Thestrup said “It feels amazing to have signed for Bristol City and I’m extremely excited to get started.

“When the interest was there, I was excited about it from the beginning and then I had a good conversation with Lauren [Smith] and also spoke to Rachel Furness and Amy Rodgers, who I know from my time at Liverpool. Throughout all those conversations, it just felt right.

“Getting promoted back to the WSL is a testament to where the club is going and the ambitions that everyone here has so I think the goal is to establish the team in the top flight and show that’s where we belong.

“I’ve seen what it takes to compete in the WSL and you have to perform at your best every game because every team and every player is so talented. Hopefully, I can utilise my experience going into this season.”
