Blackburn Rovers have announced the departure of long-serving centre-back Kayleigh McDonald.

The Lancashire club announced the news via a post on their official club website this morning.

McDonald leaves Blackburn Rovers upon the expiry of her contract at Ewood Park. The player is moving away from the elite game to focus on her career outside of football.

The defender leaves Blackburn Rovers as a club legend. McDonald has spent seven years with the club, helping them to climb the footballing pyramid before cementing their place in the Barclays Women’s Championship. McDonald has won three FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division titles with Blackburn Rovers while she twice lifted the division’s League Cup. The player finally celebrated promotion with the club in 2019.

In her four seasons in the elite game, McDonald has made 45 appearances for Blackburn Rovers in the Barclays Women’s Championship while she has scored one goal.

McDonald has played a huge part in Blackburn Rovers’ recent history and she will be missed by everyone involved with the club. With 10 days to go until the start of the new Barclays Women’s Championship season, Blackburn Rovers head coach Simon Parker could look to bolster his side’s defensive ranks to backfill for McDonald’s departure.
