Southampton have completed the signing of Chelsea forward Emma Thompson ahead of the new Barclays Women’s Championship season.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Saints this afternoon.

Thompson came through the youth ranks at Chelsea before making her senior debut for the club in a 3-1 victory at Aston Villa in a Vitality Women’s FA Cup tie in January 2022. Chelsea sent Thompson out on loan last season to further her development. She joined Barclays Women’s Championship club Lewes and made 19 league appearances for the Sussex side.

The teenager is very much one for the future and she will be hoping to shine with new club Southampton.

After joining The Saints, Thompson said “From my first few days being in, I knew it’s the place I wanted to be. I had such a warm welcome from all the players, all the staff, and that was a real positive for me. The ambitions and the goals of the club really align with what I want to achieve as a player, so that in itself says a lot.”

Thompson could come up against former club Lewes when Southampton travel to The Dripping Pan on Sunday 27 August 2023.
