Lewes have completed the signing of young defender Shauna Vassell on a free transfer.

The Rooks announced news of their latest addition via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

Vassell joins Lewes after most recently playing FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division football with London Bees. The player has plenty of Barclays Women’s Championship experience under her belt from spells with former clubs Watford and Charlton Athletic.

The defender has spent pre-season with Lewes and the club have today announced that Vassell has signed a permanent contract with the club. Despite still being of a young age, Vassell’s experience from the early stages of her career will be useful to her new club this season.

After joining Lewes, Vassell said “It feels great, good to be here, it’s a good feeling.

“I’ve settled in really well, the girls have been really friendly, really welcoming, as well as Scott [Booth], so it’s been a nice couple of days.

“Scott’s a great coach, the girls are like a family, it’s a good setup.”

Vassell becomes Lewes manager Scott Booth’s 10th signing of the summer transfer window. She could make her debut for The Rooks against Southampton at The Dripping Pan on Sunday.
